Strong Solar Flare
A strong solar flare reaching M9.0 was detected around a new active region at 18:14 UTC this afternoon. The responsible sunspot is now rotating into view off the eastern limb. Stay Tuned to SolarHam.com for the latest updates. Image by SDO.

ALERT: Type II Radio Emission
Begin Time: 2012 Oct 20 1815 UTC
Estimated Velocity: 516 km/s
Description: Type II emissions occur in association with eruptions on the sun and typically indicate a coronal mass ejection is associated with a flare event.
