Life is what we make it, and the world is what we make it. The eyes of the cheerful and of the melancholy man are fixed upon the same creation; but very different are the aspects which it bears to them. Albert Pike

Just think how happy you would be if you lost everything you have right now, and then got it back again. Frances Rodman

Remember that too many people who faithfully follow the prescription to work hard, sacrifice, achieve, accomplish, create and get ahead either “crack up” in the process or find an emotional vacuum at the end of it all. Arnold Lazarus

Some people are sympathetic; others are just pathetic. Peter Wastholm

Doubt is the vestibule through which all must pass before they can enter into the temple of wisdom. Charles Caleb Colton

We consume our tomorrows fretting about our yesterdays. Persius

Even when I’m sick and depressed, I love life. Arthur Rubenstein

Occurring on August 13 in the United States and August 14 in Australia, the Aquarian full Moon is set to bring all kinds of realizations, challenges and gifts. As so many new and full Moons have been, this one is yet another doozy.

The Sabian Symbol for the full Moon is Aquarius 21: A Woman Disappointed And Disillusioned, Courageously Facing A Seemingly Empty Life. This Symbol is a challenging one and it's energy will have many people wanting to realign their lives. I have long felt that this Symbol would better be read: A Woman Assessing Her Life, as the 'disappointed and disillusioned' part of the degree could then manifest as many good things that the person has to be grateful for. There are challenges, for sure, and they can be big ones with this degree, but this 'Woman' (and this, of course, can relate to men), can find meaning and purpose in their life by focusing on what is possible, what is worthwhile and worth striving for. Other things in life may have to be left behind, walked away from, forgiven and released. 'Disillusionment' can be a positive thing as one wakes up and removes the veils that have been in place, perhaps for a very long time.

The following are the Keywords and Cautions from my book The Sabian Oracle: 360 Degrees Of Wisdom:

Keywords: Breaking through illusions. Facing stark reality with hope. Loneliness and depression overcome. Positive outlooks. Counting one’s blessings. Looking towards the future. Having to battle through relationship losses while maintaining a sense of self and purpose. Turning points reached. Having a belief in miracles. Choosing joy.

The Caution: Wallowing in failure. Not seeing the joy and beauty of one’s life. Accepting defeat. Feeling like all is lost. Bitterness. Walling one’s self off from others. Not trusting people. Finding nothing to be happy about. Feeling deserted and alone. Not letting go of the past. Injuries. Infertility. Incurable “dis-eases”. Unrequited love. The loss of the partner. Staring into space. Being a sad, old person.

The Karmic Condition (the degree before) of the full Moon is a beautiful degree  - Aquarius 20: A Large White Dove Bearing A Message. As this degree describes the moments leading up to the full Moon, this image describes one of the gifts of this lunation. Doves have a very strong spiritual message. The following is my commentary on this degree from my book:

‘A Large White Dove Bearing a Message’ shows messages of peace and love. The ‘Dove’ is a symbol of innocence, gentleness and affection; also, in art and in the Scriptures, it is the typical symbol of the Holy Ghost. When Jesus was baptized, the Holy Ghost descended in the shape of a ‘Dove’. It also symbolizes the soul and as such is sometimes represented coming out of the mouths of saints at death. ‘Doves’ are a symbol of inspiration and divine guidance. A caged ‘Dove’ signifies the human soul imprisoned in the flesh and held captive during the period of mortal life. They can represent peace and in this Symbol the ‘Large White Dove is Bearing a Message’. The ‘Dove’ brought to Noah a bough of an olive-tree as a sign that the deluge of wrath that was unleashed by the flood was over. Further ‘Doves’ are said to be able to perform miracles with their ‘Messages’.

Keywords: Being seen as a savior or one who needs saving. Blessings delivered—all will be well. Celebration. Somebody who brings blessed relief. Issues of hope and salvation. The Covenant. News. Announcements. Peace movements. The Rainbow Warrior. Utopian idealism. Olive branches.

The Caution: Staying with the assumption that things will never improve. Refusing solace. Shooting the messenger. Not trusting the good things in life. Not being content with any message that’s relayed. Insincere messages caused by the pain of not facing the real truth.

What are the 'messages' that are around you and being delivered to you personally? Are you sensing that life is trying to tell you something? Are you a messenger of peace and love for others?

The degree of the Sun at the full Moon could see some acting irrationally, or perhaps feeling shaken loose by what's going on in the world. The Symbol is Leo 21: Intoxicated Chickens Dizzily Flap Their Wings Trying To Fly. This Symbol sends a signal to remember who you are - don't limit yourself - but don't get going in a tizzy fit that sees no progress but only an 'intoxication' that limits true progress. On the other hand, we need more 'ecstasy' more boundless enjoyment of our lives and our selves and perhaps a bit of flapping around is what's needed? It could be that you're noticing how some are 'getting out of it' and not being truly grounded or treating their life with respect and honor.

Keywords: False courage. Inexperience. Trying to do something beyond the bounds of experience or possibility. Getting “out of it” in order to escape something. Getting all het-up over tiny or illusive prospects. Alcohol and drugs and the allure of escapism. Drinking binges. Ecstasy. Hangovers. Attempting to do the impossible.

The Caution: Giddiness, light headedness, unwanted side effects. Getting nowhere. Inability to ground things in reality. Making a fool of one’s self. Intoxication that inhibits seeing what's really possible. Alcoholism and drug habits. Losing reality. Mindlessness that confuses or misleads. Going too far too fast. Forgetting who or where you are.

There IS light at the end of the tunnel, but first I need to share with you the planetary configurations behind the extreme tension shown in this full Moon. This is shown by Mars, Uranus, Pluto and the asteroid Juno being in a rather tight grand cross, which can be challenging, upsetting and life changing, to say the least.

Mars is on Cancer 7: Two Fairies (Nature Spirits) Dancing On A Moonlit Night. This can show people in relationships that are not really grounded in reality, are fanciful, or, it can speak of people not really taking notice of what's happening in the 'real world'. It's interesting for Mars to be on this degree as it speaks of 'A Moonlit Night' (and Mars happens to be on this degree for the full Moon).

Keywords: Usually invisible astral realms. Reconnecting with the feminine. Dancing. Avoiding harsh reality. Slipping away somewhere unnoticed. Seeing what’s usually hidden. Romances that have difficulty in the real world. Dreams and fantasies. Sharing common ground. Full moon celebrations. Moonlight. Sunlight. Couples inspirited. Women celebrating. Other realms. Invoking fantasies. Moon dances.

The Caution: Losing one’s self in emotional dreaming. Not seeing the reality of the other you’re “dancing” with. Lacking responsibility. Escapist attitudes vs. serious decisions. Relationships with no earthly reality or substance. Something too good to be true. Finding it hard to connect with others.

They dined on mince, and slices of quince, Which they ate with a runcible spoon; And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand, They danced by the light of the moon. Edward Lear

It seems that we have to see through some of the bleariness of the Sun on the Intoxicated Chickens and Mars on the Two Fairies degree in order to get to the bottom of what's going on around us.

Opposing Mars is Pluto. This opposition can bring about anger, eruptions, irritability and it can show people being pushed a little too much. It can also show people wanting to push, either because they are used to being in charge or bullying or derailing others, or, there can be a sense of extreme frustration with the inequities of fairness that we're seeing in society. Tensions can become explosive, especially if things have been suppressed and kept hidden and buried.

Pluto is on Capricorn 6: Ten Logs Lie Under An Archway Leading To Darker Woods. This speaks of journeys into the unknown, getting past the past, tenacity, stamina and energy preservation, thresholds, archways, entrances and dark forests. It's dark, impenetrable places, the unknown and the "unknowable", delving into the subconscious, memories and thoughts that lead into deep or strange places, gateways, fallen trees.... it can feel like your path is blocked or obstructed. Where are things leading to? What are you objectives? What (and where) is this path that you're on?

Uranus, which is being squared by Mars and squared by Pluto, is on Aries 5: A White Triangle Is Seen; It Has Golden Wings. This can show the desire to rise above situations, to ignore what's really going on, or, to transcend worries. Uranus on this degree can show some losing the plot, forgetting about the solid things in life that are important and it can lead all the way up to the 'space cadet' that's just out of reach and cutting off. Of course, this can be a bit of a saving grace with so much gnarly stuff going on. We just don't want to cut the cords from reality as we could be cast adrift if we try to 'ascend' past the place of safety and sanity!

Juno, the patroness of marriage, relationships and legal unions, could be bringing some light relief to situations as it's on a fabulous degree that speaks about creative manifestations, imagineering and coming face-to-face with our own thoughts. The Symbol is Libra 5: A Man Watches His Ideals Taking A Concrete Form Before His Inner Vision. What is the 'vision' that is being made manifest for you?

Keywords: Vivid confrontations with one’s objectives. Creative visualizations. Imagining things. Meditations and affirmations. Ideas crystallized. Putting things out into the universe. Making things happen. Seeing things take shape and form. Clairvoyance. Film making. Writing and getting published. The power of manifestation. Solidification. Builders. Sculptures. Dreams.

The Caution: Being dissatisfied with what was thought to be the true ideal. Feeling that things are “written in stone” and can’t be changed. Calcified situations or emotions. Neurosis. Focusing on the negative thereby bringing the negative.

So, with Mars on Cancer 7, Pluto on Capricorn 5, Uranus on Aries 5 - we have a very  tight 'male energy dominated' t-square that is made into a grand cross with Juno at Libra 5. This places great stress on both the masculine and feminine energies around us and I believe that watching our thoughts, affirmations and beliefs is a very big clue as to how we can heal what's going on.

Venus is asking that we restore spirit, return to our natures, perform rituals and see the larger picture. It seems to be asking us to drop the 'disappointed and disillusioned' view and take on a larger, more holistic view of what's going on. The Symbol is Leo 20: American Indians Perform A Ritual To The Sun.

Keywords: Restoring spirit. Rituals and worship. The desire to return to nature. Shining through one’s life, not through social credentials. Sweat lodges. Drum-beating. Celebrating a unique heritage. Participation with nature’s cycles. Eclipses. Smudging. Reveling in the larger picture leading to belonging and oneness. Fire, passion, spontaneity, sacrifice. Restoring sacredness. American Indian traditions. Vision quests. Fasting. Courage. Conquering bad habits and attitudes. The truth of conviction. Prayer. Eagle feathers. Baptisms of fire.

The Caution: Egoistic responses to life situations leading to narrow responses. Relying on rituals to manifest magic. Losing sight of the meaning of ceremony. Holding onto tradition without intuiting new and modern truths. Living in the past. Cult worship. Losing identity in one’s own culture. Sunstroke.

It's instructive to note that the last new Moon was on Leo 8: An Activist Is Stirring Up Discontent By Spreading His Revolutionary Ideals. We are seeing that 'activist energy' stirring things up alright - and it's happening all over, especially in England at the moment.

Now, the good news is that the Moon's north node is trining Venus, the Sun and Mercury from Sagittarius 22. This can give the individual a feeling of strength in amongst the chaos that is currently emanating. This is because the trine can bring in a realignment with what is possible on a personal level. The trick here is that people have to feel that they have a purpose, a contribution, a place and a belief that what they do is worthwhile. This can indeed by tricky as the Moon's north node is on Sagittarius 22: A Chinese Laundry.

Keywords: Restrictive expectations. Relations with others because of social duty. Performing tasks. Mediocrity, or the fear of it. Washing machines and dryers. Money and other laundering. Laws and legislation based on social and racial inequality. Issues of belonging. Cleaning up for others. The search for purity. Institutions that inhibit individuality. Convents. Stereotyping people. Work and the rewards it should bring.

The Caution: Giving in to prejudice. Self-inflicted sense of inferiority that can lead to missed opportunities for relating. Feeling trapped with no way out. Not being taken seriously. Doing menial jobs with little reward or real return. Slave labor. Lack of individual identity. Shutters to keep the world out.

Social inequalities and prejudice can be around as the Moon's north node has just passed over Sagittarius 23: A Group Of Immigrants Fulfilling The Requirements For Entering A New Country. This, very obviously, relates to issues around immigration, immigrants, refugees and finding a place to be, to be accepted and settled.

Finding that sense of peace and acceptance (in a real sense) can be a trial when so many people on the planet are in such desperate straits.

Mercury, which is currently retrograde, is on Leo 27: Daybreak - The Luminescence Of Dawn In The Eastern Sky. This speaks of the gradual realization of possibilities and new opportunities, a new day dawning, transitions between darkness and light, scenes of awe and amazement, dawning awareness, awakening, looking to the future and luminescent light. Dawn meditations can help and can dispel the darkness that is currently pervading many people's minds, hearts and realities.

Further, we would do well to watch our thoughts as Mercury is currently being opposed by Neptune. Neptune can bring confusion and a lack of communication, but it can also bring to light our visions, hopes and ideals. Neptune is on a degree that speaks about the end civilization (at least as we currently know it). It gives the feeling that things are cracking up to crack open. The Symbol is Aquarius 30: Moonlit Fields, Once Babylon, Are Blooming White. Neptune is currently painting a somewhat different picture to our current 'civilization' that discriminates and marginalizes so many people on this planet. Neptune, on a higher plane, can bring about our ideals of a good and worthwhile life, but we may need to make some major adjustments to what we perceive to be our 'entitlements'.

This is a long blog post and it needed to be. I'm reminded of the quote: Please excuse the  length of this letter, I have no time to be brief (anonymous writer, but I feel I could have written it myself :) ) We really have so much to think about and be mindful of at this time.

Jupiter may be delivering the most sublime message of all at the moment. It's on Taurus 10: A Red Cross Nurse With Warm Sympathy. This speaks of spreading unconditional and compassionate understanding of our own and other people's situations, emotions and realities. Taking care, being sympathetic and reaching out to others with a helping hand are major messages here.
