Updated 3/5/2012 @ 15:30 UTC Major X Class Solar Flare A long duration and major X1.1 solar flare peaked at 04:09 UTC Monday morning around Sunspot 1429. A strong R3 Level Radio Blackout resulted. A bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is now seen in the latest STEREO Behind and Lasco images. The expanding plasma cloud is mostly heading towards the north and east, however a small portion looks to be Earth directed. This is the 10th largest solar flare of the current Sunspot Cycle and it also happens to be the 10th X-Class flare as well.
As said… it’s a warming up of LOVE coming towards US…

Solar Update
Solar activity is at high levels. Giant Sunspot cluster 1429 has a Beta-Gamma-Delta magnetic configuration and has now produced two M-Class flares and a major X1.1 Solar Flare at 04:09 UTC Monday morning. A long 10cm Radio Burst (TenFlare) measuring 12000pfu was detected. The blast generated a bright Coronal Mass Ejection and a small portion of it looks to be Earth directed. The bulk of the plasma cloud will miss Earth. The proton levels around Earth continue to gradually rise, but so far levels remain below the S1 Radiation Storm threshold. This region may produce another major solar flare during the next 24-48 hours. As 1429 continues to rotate into a more geoeffective position, the chances for Earth directed explosions will increase.
Elsewhere, New Sunspot 1430 was numbered on Sunday and is located to the west of 1429. A fast growing Sunspot located in the southwest quadrant should be numbered 1431 on Monday.

India shaken by 19th earthquake in 2012
March 5, 2012 – New Delhi, INDIA – Monday’s earthquake that shook the capital and certain areas in its neighboring states of Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh was the 19th tremor in the country this year so far and third in the past five days. The tremor, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale with Haryana’s Bahadurgarh as epicenter, shook Delhi and neighboring towns at 1:11 pm. A strong 5.2- magnitude earthquake (USGS) struck close to the Indian capital on Monday, with powerful tremors shaking buildings and sending frightened residents scurrying into the streets. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, this was the 19th quake in the country this year so far and third this month alone. In January this year, there were 10 tremors which were recorded in various parts of India. Six quakes measuring between 5.0 to 3.6 on the Richter scale were felt in February. Last year, there were 80 earthquakes in India, which measured between 3.5 to 6.5 on the Richter scale. A majority of these quakes occurred in the northern Indian regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Harayana and Punjab. “India has always been a zone which experiences a lot of seismic activities since ancient times. We are continuously doing research in the seismology department,” RS Dattatrayam, a scientist with IMD’s Seismic Department, told PTI. “Delhi will continue to experience these quakes and termors as it falls on the junctures of faults and ridges,” said Dattatrayam. According to the Seismic Zone Mapping done by the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Delhi is among 30 cities in the country falling in zone IV, which is defined as a severe intensity seismic zone. This is the third tremor in Delhi, which is among the 30 cities which fall in the high risk seismic zone, since September last year. –Zee News
VOLCANO UPDATE
Magma Plume: Mt. Etna volcano rocked by third eruption in 2012
March 5, 2012 – ITALY - Etna just keeps on rolling. The Italian volcano had its third paroxysm of 2012 (see above) on March 4 and first since early February. This new eruption was a short event that was preceded by 18 days worth of small strombolian activity. The event may have been only ~2 hours, but it produced some spectacular explosions, aiding in some part by interaction with snow and a pyroclastic flow was spotted as well. Osservatario Etneo reported that even a small lahar was produced during this paroxysm as a result of volcanic material mixing with snow. Air traffic around Sicily was not affected by this paroxysm. –Wired
