The Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating System is now operational and delivering solar electricity to California customers. At full capacity, the facility’s trio of 450-foot high towers produces a gross total of 392 megawatts (MW) of solar power, enough electricity to provide 140,000 California homes with clean energy and avoid 400,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide per year, equal to removing 72,000 vehicles off the road.

Sprawling across a staggering 5 square miles of federal land near the California-Nevada border, it looks damn beautiful. Just look at these amazing images: Read More

Who's convinced you that switching to solar power is going to deprive trees of CO2? Sounds like direct propaganda from oil companies. The trees will be just fine if we stop burning fossil fuels, in fact, Nature was much better off before all that industrialization started. The air and water was certainly much cleaner.

Even if pumping billions of tons of CO2 into the atmosphere isn't causing the climate to alter, even if you don't believe it's changing the pH of the oceans, anybody who has to breathe air should still be opposed to burning fossil fuels. Even if large changes to the chemistry of the atmosphere have no consequences, burning oil and coal are still a foolish idea simply because of the large amounts of poisons created that we end up having to breathe.
