Athena, Brutus, Caesar ... all are mythical characters in Greek mythology. Thanks to The Weather Channel, those names have become much more this winter season. The cable channel — home of weather stud Jim Cantore and weather geeks everywhere — was in its element recently as a winter storm barreled through Ohio.

But this wasn’t just any winter storm. We know the name for our wintry attacker, thanks to a new policy in which major winter storms receive names, just as hurricanes have been named for decades.

Heaven Letters

God said:

I would like to talk to you about your heart. Your heart may feel wounded right now, and you don’t even know why. You think of this and that, yet you really don’t know why your heart is aching. It aches because it aches. Maybe you have put all your eggs in one basket of your heart. You know, your heart wouldn’t feel heavy if you didn’t let your heart be a repository for everything in the world. It is better that your heart becomes a repository for all the happy things that come before you. Since when did your heart have to become a repository for ill winds that blow?

You heart is meant to be a safe place for happiness. What are you burdening your heart for? Your heart is meant for love, not scrapes and bruises. Your heart is not meant to be a wastebasket. Your heart is meant to be a heart, and everyone knows that a heart is meant for love. You know it, and yet you may have made your heart a dumping ground.

Rain's picture

Times of Malta - 1/16/13, Kim Dalli

Midday downpour was as white as snow but hard as rocks

A convertible’s canvas roof wrecked by precipitation.

Parts of Malta’s landscape yesterday looked like something out of a Christmas postcard as an accumulation of hail blanketed the roads and fields.

Excited children donned their boots and gloves and gleefully rushed outdoors to play and snap photos in the snow-like surroundings. Some schools took a break to allow pupils to experience the unusual moment.

Flash may have come from Manitoba Hydro station, or it could have been lightning

Many Winnipeggers reported seeing the whitish-green flash in the sky at around 10 p.m. CT Tuesday. It disappeared as suddenly as it appeared.

As we march along into our new world we need to stop and ask ourselves what we want that new world to be like, and realize that new world begins with each of us creating what our own world will be like. It begins with ourselves. Stop and take time to evaluate your life. Are you doing and being what makes you happy? Does your life hold a deep meaning? Are you finally figuring out that what you have or what car you drive or what neighborhood you live in  does not define who you are and should not have the power to bring you happiness or not. How you feel and who you are comes from deep within you, from your values, your soul, your true desires, your authentic self.

FRESNO, Calif. -- The freeze gripping the West appeared on the verge of easing Tuesday, but farmers who spent millions to protect crops were still assessing damage, some produce prices climbed, and businesses and residents dealt with burst pipes.

The National Weather Service predicted another frosty night, but said temperatures would begin to warm as high pressure moved east.
