Wind kicks up 100-year-old volcano ash in Alaska

A smog-like haze that hung over part of Alaska's Kodiak Island this week was courtesy of a volcanic eruption—100 years ago. 
 
The National Weather Service says strong winds and a lack of snow Tuesday helped stir up ash from the 1912 eruption of Novarupta, the largest volcanic blast of the 20th century.

As Hurricane Sandy ravaged the East Coast, especially New York City and New Jersey, we have to give a tip of the hat to everyone who did their part in making sure their neighbors, friends and family were safe and secure.

In New York City the first responders were on point, as their rescue efforts saved lives and got many out of harm's way. Police officer Artur Kasprzak, city medical staff, NYU's medical center and the mayors and governors who were on TV informing citizens every step of the way, all played a role in saving lives.

Crew members of the ship are reported to be missing

Rescue operations are under way in India's southern city of Chennai to find five sailors missing from an oil tanker that ran aground in a cyclone.

Coast guard helicopters and boats are combing the sea for sailors from the Pratibha Cauvery.
