Henry W. McElroy, Jr, retiring State Representative to New Hampshire, declared this week that former US President Eisenhower was briefed about the presence of extraterrestrial intelligent beings on Earth.

Banks have become ‘detached from society’ and need to change their culture, the boss of the Royal Bank of Scotland admitted yesterday.

Stephen Hester said the industry has been ‘brought down to earth with a bump’ after recent financial scandals.

He was speaking as the RBS reported a half-year loss of £1.5billion.

The bank also revealed it would pay £125million in compensation to customers who were affected by its computer system glitch.

RBS also admitted that its refund bill to families and small businesses who were mis-sold financial products is to rise by £310million.

Former Fijian Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase has been sentenced to a year in jail for corruption.

Laisenia Qarase was Fiji's last elected prime minister

He was found guilty of nine charges involving the abuse of office and failure in discharging his duty when he served as a director of a government investment company in the 1990s.

The 71-year-old became Fiji's last elected leader in 2000, before being ousted in a military coup in 2006.

(Reuters) - Struggling Knight Capital Group Inc's future remained in flux on Friday, with major clients saying they would resume trading with the company, while potential buyers were still combing through the company's books with an eye toward a deal.
