Due to an Earth-Directed coronal mass ejection early Friday morning, northern lights, also known as Aurora Borealis were seen in parts of Canada, Alaska and even into Michigan, Saturday night. Below are some captured photos of the event.

The odds of seeing northern lights on Sunday is favorable for most of New England and upstate New York, these regions can expect mostly clear skies.  The Great Lakes can expect clouds to increase and viewing conditions to deteriorate as the night progresses. Partly cloudy skies will occupy the interior Northwest, according to AccuWeather.com Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski. If you take photos of the northern lights, please send them to use via Twitter or Facebook for our photo blog story. For more information on northern lights and possible viewing areas, read "Solar Flare to Produce Spectacular Northern Lights.

The abundant resources of their forest home provide the Matsés with a rich and varied diet.

Amazon Indians from Peru and Brazil have joined together to stop a Canadian oil company destroying their land and threatening the lives of uncontacted tribes

Hundreds of Matsés Indians gathered on the border of Peru and Brazil last Saturday and called on their governments to stop the exploration, warning that the work will devastate their forest home.

Drumbeats of change: Idle No More fires up Canada as movement spreads like wildfire

Madame Butterfly's picture

Canadians from coast to coast have donned their battle toques, grabbed their drumsticks and taken to the streets to stand beside their First Nations brethren in what is becoming a sweeping social movement that has started a fire in the hearts (and under the butts) of this normally passive and easygoing nation.

As the populace of Canada has slowly begun to awaken in horror to the bizarre, irresponsible and dangerous policies of creepily narcissistic Prime Minister Stephen Harper, most Canadians looked askance to each other in terms of how to fight this avalanche of bad news.

From omnibus bills of gargantuan length and size aimed at sweeping in massive, undisputed reforms that serve only the greed of oil companies, to the dismantling of Canada's once internationally acclaimed scientific outposts and firing of its world-class scientists, the people of Canada have stood and watched with their mouths literally hanging open in shock for long enough.

Ufo sighting 07/19/2012 North Bay Ontario Canada

We saw more than one of these within ten minutes all going diferent directions. Never seen those type of lights around here before...and we've been watching the sky for months now. There was no sound and they were low enough. We've also been seeing something else we're having a hard time to capture on film, but we're using a tripod so fingers crossed we get something soon. :) It starts out as a flash of light then what looks like a star appears....the size grows and it gets really bright almost like a shooting star, then it dims, and goes off in a different direction than it came in....the best one we've seen took around 30 seconds from start to finish, they are all an intense bright white, bluish light, but some last longer than others, and some look like they are closer. Still happens so fast it's hard to get on cam. I have a short clip of one getting bigger and dimming out if anyone is interested in seeing it, and helping me solve the mystery of what they might be. :)

Awesome UFO Sighting May 20th 2012 Stouffville Ontario Canada

Rain's picture

On May 20th 2012 five of us witnessed what we feel was a UFO sighting. It was definitely not an airplane, helicopter, comet, meteor, asteroid, flares, fireworks, balloon, fighter jets or anything else that I've seen before. There were no engine noises - totally silent. I have no idea what it was, but I know what it wasn't. We saw two extremely bright red lights coming from the north of where we live. They moved in unison, as if attached to something larger, they headed southwards, turned to the west, and the disappeared - just like someone dimmed the lights and then turned them off. Two minutes later it (or another set of 2 lights) appeared where the 1st set came from and did the exact same thing - fly south, then west, then just disappeared. Two additional people in our neighbourhood saw the exact same thing - in total, 6 adults & an 11 year old. This is the video of the 2nd occurrence. My camera date and time stamped it May 20th 2012 8:38pm EST. The only thing I did to the video was use a software tool to remove and smooth out the background noise. You decide for yourself what this is.
