Silver's picture

Natural News, By: PF Louis, 01/29/2014

(NaturalNews) Tasmania recently extended its ban on GMO crops indefinitely. This move will enable the Tasmanian island state of the Australian Commonwealth, located 150 miles off the southeast coast of mainland Australia, to maintain export leverage to European nations and others that won't import GMO foods.

Record November rain for Tasmania

Silver's picture

Weatherzone, By: James Casey, 11/26/2013

The East Coast of Tasmania has been saturated during November, with records being broken in some places. Bicheno has recorded 228mm of rain so far during November, more than four times the average and the wettest on record. Elsewhere, Friendly Beach and St Helens have also been soaked this month with 226mm and 214mm respectively, the heaviest November falls in over a decade. Further south in Hobart, almost double the average November rainfall has been recorded with 80mm for the month.

The above average November rainfall was caused by a couple of ideally placed low pressure systems around the 12th to 14th and the 21st to 24th of the month. These low pressure systems were situated in such a way that they directed moist onshore winds and heavy rain onto the east coast of the state for a number of days.

Wind and rain increasing for TAS

Silver's picture

Weatherzone, By: Rob Sharpe, 04/25/2013

Anzac Day will be wet and windy in western Tasmania while the east will see patchy rain developing in the afternoon and evening. A cold front is arriving today bringing gale force winds and heavy showers to the western coast and ranges. Strahan has had a drier than usual April thus far with only 59% of its average rainfall of 117mm. Strahan will join most of the west coast and ranges in gaining 15-30mm today.

Northwesterly winds are increasing this morning up to gale force, before the cold front reaches the west in the middle of the day, bringing a strong westerly change. As the front moves across the state it will bring patchy rain into the east during the afternoon and evening, putting a dampener on the holiday.

Coldest days since spring for Tasmania

Silver's picture

Weatherzone, By: Ben McBurney, 04/18/2013

The seasons have well and truly changed in Tasmania, with some places likely to see their coldest days since October over the next couple of days. A cold front swept across the state overnight, bringing showers and the coldest air mass the state has seen since spring.

Hobart managed to reach 13 degrees at 11am this morning, and is unlikely to get any higher today as the air mass continues to cool. This is the city's coldest day since October when it hit just 11 degrees, and is a cool reminder that winter is on its way. Strahan on the west coast also only managed to creep up to 13.4 degrees today, its coldest day since November.
