A Great Disturbance in the Force

There’s a line from a Star Wars movie that *almost* encapsulated how I felt last night. It was a strange night.

“I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.”

For the past few days I’ve been feeling rather strange. My heart has been beating like a bass drum. It was a strained, fiery type of beating but I never felt like I was in any danger. This same thing happened to me last summer and I was much less accustomed to it. There were some nights I was certain I was having a heart attack. I’m a little more enlightened now, and believe that these are the effects of solar flares.

USDA crop report highlights winter worries

Australian grain growers are closely watching the prolonged Northern Hemisphere winter, which will have a big effect on global market performance.

 

Snow and sleet in the United States and Europe could downgrade the crop performance and hit the market, which is down again today off the back of the latest US Department of Agriculture report. Tim Glass from the National Australia Bank said the prices grain growers get will depend on how long the cold Northern Hemisphere weather persists.

Storms charging towards Brisbane

Thunderstorms developed along the SE QLD ranges around midday before heading east towards the coast.

 

A thunderstorm has just brought 7mm in 10 minutes to Ipswich and is now firing on its way to Brisbane. By 1pm this storm had just brushed Gatton dropping the temperatures by 5 degrees in 10 minutes and bringing 0.8mm. A broad low pressure trough stretching across NSW and QLD is providing significant instability for thunderstorms in southeastern Queensland. At midday storms sparked along the ranges and quickly moved east.
