Artist Reminds Us About Pollution With Remarkable Trash Sculptures

The following is a series of artwork from Artur Bordalo’s (aka Bordalo II) that wishes to point attention to the issues of how much we waste, not recycling or reusing materials, pollution and the effect it has on the planet. These issues seem that they are likely to be forgotten, become trivial or become what some would call “necessary evils”.

The idea is to depict nature itself, in this case – animals out of materials that are responsible for its destruction. These works were built with end-of-life materials: the majority found in wastelands, abandoned factories or just randomly. Some were obtained from companies that are going through a recycling process.

Confirmed: Oklahoma Earthquakes Caused By Fracking

Source: www.ecowatch.com | Original Post Date: April 23, 2015 –

Despite the enormous increase in earthquakes in Oklahoma that started at the same time as heavy fracking began there—with the number of earthquakes over 3.0 magnitude skyrocketing from an average of less than two a year to 585 last year—the state has been in official denial about the cause.

Now the state has not only admitted that the injection into deep underground wells of fluid byproducts from drilling operations is behind the quakes, but it put up a website titled Earthquakes in Oklahoma that is ;a “one-stop source for information on earthquakes in Oklahoma.” The site includes an interactive map that displays the dramatic change not only in the number of earthquakes but in their distribution. Instead of a scattering around the state, they’re clustered heavily in areas where drilling operations are disposing of fracking wastewater.

Family’s Solar Panels Are “Too Powerful,” Shut Down By Utility Company

Source: www.minds.com | Original Post Date: September 3, 2015 –

This is a twist.

Southern California residents Ron and Sarah Hall were paying too much in electricity bills and decided to make the switch to solar, contracting Solar City to outline their roof with 36 solar panels.  Nearly a year ago, the installation was complete and for that entire year, the energy bill did not change.

It turns out, the utility company had never turned the panels on.  Because the panels were producing energy at 128% [of consumption], they were 28% too efficient and didn’t fall under the limitations placed on residents for power creation.  The state believes that if a resident is making too much power, they can sell the extra and are potential energy distributors, liable for additional commercial business regulations.  The Halls were not told, they just kept paying their exorbitant bills.

As solar energy is quickly rising in efficiency and lowering in price, more creative solutions are being devised to fully bring this technology into widespread mainstream use.

One possible idea that opens many possibilities for solar power, is solar farms that actually float on water.

According to recent reports, one company named Forward Thinking Architecture from Barcelona, Spain is taking this idea a step further, by farming food as well as energy from the sun.

The company has estimated that their project will yield at least 8,152 tons of vegetables a year and 1,703 tons of fish a year.

10 Hallmarks Of Healthy Relationships

Source: www.themindunleashed.org | Original Post Date: March 26, 2015 –

Working in the therapeutic sector with many different people in many types of relationships – including partners, parents/children and friends – it has become apparent that there are a few key factors which are generally present when the relationship is healthy.

Throughout the following ten hallmarks a common theme is open and clear communication. We may feel or think a certain way, but if we don’t express it, how the hell is anyone meant to know? Real communication is without a doubt integral to a healthy relationship, so if it’s not one of our strong points, then we should keep practicing it until it is.

Honesty and Trust

Being honest with our loved one doesn’t necessarily mean that each person knows everything about each other. We don’t share every dream we have, what we did exactly from the start to finish of each day, how many times we went to the toilet, what attention we got from the opposite sex etc., but it does mean that each person genuinely knows who each other is and how they feel.

This Country Is Filling Vacant Homes With People Who Need Them

Source: www.usuncut.com | Original Post Date: September 11, 2015 –

Ada Colau used to be an anti-eviction activist with Spain’s indignados movement. Now, she’s mayor of Barcelona, and is making the banks pay fines for evicting families from their homes and leaving them vacant. But Barcelona is just one of many cities doing this — in recent years, 100 municipalities across Spain have approved motions to levy fines on banks, which have an estimated 3.4 million vacant homes on their books.

While Barcelona is initially fining banks 60,000 euros monthly (approx. $68K USD) for a dozen vacant homes, more fines may be given for six times as many homes. Banks will be forced to pay the fine each month the building is unoccupied, with other fees assessed as each month goes by.

10 Things That Happen To Your Body If You Have Sex Daily

Source: www.healthy-holistic-living.com | Original Post Date: May 20, 2015 –

Do you need 10 more reasons to have sex daily? No. But they’re never bad to know. Sex is a necessary part of life, relationships, and, as it turns out, good health. More regular sex may not get rid of a headache, but the health benefits that daily sex has for you will help prevent the headaches in the first place.

Joy Davidson, PhD, psychologist and sex therapist, along with other sexperts, agree that sex has scientifically backed benefits for your health. Obviously it increases blood flow, is good for your skin (“You’re glowing!”), and has improves mental health by increasing desire and intimacy. But how can daily sex help in ways you didn’t know?

1. Sex Relieves Stress

A study shows that sex reduces blood pressure, and therefore overall stress.  Even the simple act of hugging has been shown to lower blood pressure in women.

7 Drugs Whose Dangerous Risks Emerged Only After Big Pharma Made Its Money

Have you ever noticed how warnings about dangerous prescription drugs always seem to surface after the drug is no longer marketed and its patent has run out? Whether it’s an FDA advisory or a trial lawyer solicitation about harm that may have been done to you, the warnings are always belated and useless. If a drug you took four years ago may have given you liver damage, why didn’t the FDA tell you then? Why didn’t the FDA recall the drug or better yet, not approve it in the first place?

The official answer from the FDA and Big Pharma is that problems with a drug are only seen after millions begin using it, which is why post-marketing surveillance is conducted. In other words—who knew? But in a startling number of cases revealed in court documents Pharma did “know” and clearly misled medical journals, the FDA, doctors and patients, hoping to get its patent’s worth before the true risks of a drug surfaced. In other cases, Pharma and the FDA should have known before rushing a dangerous drug to market and making money at the expense of patients.
