Coffee Does Not Dehydrate You, Says New Study

A new study published in the journal PLOS ONE says that drinking a moderate amount of coffee does not lead to dehydration. There is a common belief that drinking coffee or other caffeinated drinks can lead to dehydration, and it has long been known that caffeine acts as a mild diuretic. However, the effects of coffee consumption on fluid balance cannot be directly compared to pure caffeine.

 

Prior to the latest research, only two studies had specifically investigated the effects of caffeine in the form of coffee on hydration. This was the first study to directly assess the effects of moderate consumption of coffee compared to equal volumes of water.

Adelaide sweats through 45.1C as south-east towns set local temperature records

Adelaide has had its fourth hottest day on record, reaching 45.1 degrees Celsius, but it could get even hotter over the next couple of days with 46C forecast on Thursday. Premier Jay Weatherill is currently meeting with emergency service chiefs to get an update about the state's extreme weather, with a severe thunderstorm warning current for several districts. Adelaide's temperature today peaked just before 2:00pm, pipping the 45.0C recorded in January last year for fourth spot on the list. The south east has felt the full brunt of the current heatwave, with two towns setting record temperatures.

Sinabung volcano (Sumatra) - eruption increases again, large pyroclastic flows

After a few days of deceiving calm, the eruption of the volcano intensified again today and produced the so-far largest pyroclastic flows, reaching probably more than 5-6 km in length, and associated ash plumes that rose to approx. 25,000 ft (8 km) altitude.

Winter Weather Watch: Clipper System to Bring Midwest Snow

First clipper system produces a swath of light to moderate snow across the Upper Midwest and upper Great Lakes Tuesday and Tuesday night. The next clipper brings snow and wind to the Northern Plains Wednesday and the Upper Midwest through Upper Great Lakes Thursday. Localized lake-effect snow on the backside of both systems especially across southwest Michigan. A bit of snow possible across the Appalachians from eastern Tennessee through western North Carolina and north to West Virginia Wednesday.

All those tasks linked to an inauguration phase – and we purposely don’t use the term “tests” since there is too much judgment and fear e.g. of not passing the test associated with it – need your full and undivided attention.

 

Each inauguration phase is a gift to you and it is only you that can accept and unwrap this present. We know very well how difficult this gift can be. You receive it and you are holding it in your hands, shaking it and wondering what could be inside. You want to unwrap it immediately but you struggle with the tie fastening. Therefore, you go through phases of anger and frustration which could last for days, weeks and even months.
